The Infirmary
The role of the School Infirmary is to provide first aid in case of any accident or serious illness which may occur during the school day. If necessary, the nurses will call the parents and if needed will call for an ambulance to transfer the pupil to the nearest Emergency department (Delta – Chirec Hospital, Boulevard du Triomphe 201, 1160 Brussels – Telephone number: 02.434.88.00).
Please inform immediately the Infirmary of any medical problems (e.g. asthma, hearing or eye sight problems, diabetes, etc.). Such information should also be indicated in the child’s diary, unless confidential.
- In case of illness or injury during the school day, the pupils are sent to the infirmary. Fur further information, please check the Protocol of the infirmary.
- In case of contagious disease, you are required to notify the school’s infirmary.
Medical examination
Within the school medicine framework, pupils will undergo a medical examination during specific school years:
- M2
- P1, P3, P5
- S2, S4, S6
The dates will be communicated to the parents in due course. The mandatory medical visit includes: a measurement of height and weight, a sight test, a hearing test, a urine test and a medical examination (in accordance with the National Belgian Medical School Inspection). A dental examination will be scheduled for 3rd primary classes and 2nd secondary classes.
Vaccinations : The school doctor checks the vaccine status of the pupil. Vaccination cannot be administered at school. To receive a vaccination, please contact your family doctor or pediatrician. The aim of this examination is to obtain an overall medical and age specific check-up of the pupil, to inform parents, and, if needs be, to propose specific aid in order to promote a better adaptation to
school as to family and social life. The medical service has the important function of early detection of physical deficiencies which aim to improve the child’s well-being at school. The school doctor does not prescribe therapies.
Parents who wish to meet the school doctor (between 8.30 and 10.30) are invited to schedule an appointment by calling the infirmary (telephone number : 02/629.47.38).
If your child is affected by a chronic or seasonal disease which requires regular medication, please inform the school infirmary about the child’s pathology and about the medication that he/she is taking or that has to be administered in case of emergency.
